For constipation and sluggish digestion
The Rizinol 1000 mg Laxative Capsules from Doppelherz contain purified natural castor oil, which has been valued for its effects for centuries.
Castor oil is a vegetable oil obtained from the seeds of the castor bean plant (Ricinus communis). Since castor oil has an unpleasant taste, taking it in capsule form is a convenient alternative.
The special mode of action, the possibility of individual dosage according to personal needs, and the convenient form of administration make these capsules a modern aid for digestive health. Rizinol 1000 mg Laxative Capsules from Doppelherz are generally well tolerated and come without the unpleasant taste of liquid castor oil.
Castor oil – a natural laxative
In principle, constipation should first be treated with general measures such as a high-fiber diet, sufficient fluid intake, and regular physical activity. If these lifestyle changes do not help restore normal digestion, laxatives can be a good option. A distinction is made between medicinal laxatives and natural laxatives.

Castor oil is considered a natural laxative and has long been valued as a traditional home remedy. Castor oil itself is not laxative; only in the small intestine is it broken down into ricinoleic acid and glycerol. Ricinoleic acid stimulates peristalsis (intestinal activity). Glycerol reduces friction between the intestinal wall and the stool, making the bowel movements smoother and easing the passage and elimination of stool.
The Rizinol 1000 mg Laxative Capsules from Doppelherz are a herbal stimulant laxative. The correct personal dosage is the lowest amount required to achieve a soft, well-formed stool. The laxative effect generally occurs after about 8 hours.
Please note: If constipation persists or recurs frequently, medical advice should be sought.
What is constipation (obstipation) or sluggish digestion?
For many people, digestive problems are still a taboo subject that they do not like to talk about. Constipation is one of the most common gastrointestinal complaints, affecting around 10 million people in Germany – the majority of them women.
But when do we actually speak of “constipation”?
Bowel movement frequency varies greatly from person to person and must always be assessed individually. Having between three bowel movements per day and three per week is considered normal. Constipation is only diagnosed when there are fewer than three bowel movements per week, when stools are too hard or dry, and when strong straining is required to empty the bowel.
However, we can also feel “constipated” when the frequency of bowel movements is within the normal range, but evacuation is still difficult.
In principle, constipation is not a disease in itself but rather a symptom of another underlying cause. Most causes are harmless, yet constipation can be very uncomfortable for those affected and may significantly impact quality of life. In addition to infrequent stools, symptoms may include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or bloating. Constipation is considered chronic when it persists for more than three months.
Causes of constipation (obstipation)
Constipation can have a wide range of causes, including:
- a diet low in fiber
- dietary changes, e.g. during diets or while traveling
- insufficient fluid intake
- lack of physical activity
- suppressing the urge to defecate
- side effects of certain medications, e.g. opioids, antidepressants, or iron supplements
- intestinal diseases
- neurological disorders, e.g. Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis
- hormonal factors, e.g. hypothyroidism, pregnancy
- metabolic disorders, e.g. diabetes mellitus
- after major abdominal surgery
- age-related changes in bowel function
Whether “improper” eating and drinking habits or too little physical activity alone can trigger constipation is still debated. In any case, these factors may certainly worsen an existing condition.
